About the event
An unforgettable Verdi’s Requiem  that had a 24 mins. great applause from 20.000 spectators in the Arena.
This concert is a message of brotherhood to all people in the world and was given on a very significant date: the 46th anniversary from the explosion of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
The Arena of Verona’s initiative to perform that concert was welcomed by the United Nations Organization that granted its patronage through its Secretary General Mr. Javier Perez de Cuellar.
The Major of Hiroshima, Mr. Takeshi Araki, sent the following message to the concert organizers:
“On August 5th ,1990, thousands of singers, vocalists, and instrument players from all over the world will meet to perform Verdi’s Requiem in the name of Peace. I hardly express my gratitude to all who will join the World Choir on that occasion.
Since the explosion of the atomic bomb on the 6th August, 1945 Hiroshima has never stopped applealing to the world to stop nuclear weapons and build up a durable peace. We have tried to spread the “Spirit of Hiroshima” that has been pursuing peace, solidarity, and prosperity for all peoples in the world, just in the same way as the World Choir of the Arena of Verona Festival is doing.
Music has  a universal language and I wish that the harmony of peace and brotherhood generated by singers and musicians may communicate this message of peace in every corner of the world.”
